Outstanding Maintenance Tips the Scales in the Supply of New Crane Lorries
Having made the decision to make a considerable investment in their crane mounted fleet this year, RDA Scaffolding are absolutely delighted with the two knock-out scaffolding crane trucks delivered last month but don’t take our word for it. Designed and built specifically for lifting and the safe transportation of their equipment and materials here is what Mark Corrigan (operations manager at RDA) has to say about their new crane trucks:
"RDA have a well established working relationship with Alltruck so it went without saying that when it came time to upgrade our fleet Martin was our first port of call. Through his expertise we were able to configure these new trucks to our exact specification and we are more than happy with the results. Our drivers are delighted and additionally our reduced maintenance costs, compliance, safety, fuel efficiency, lifting power and reach have all improved significantly, an investment very well made."
Alltruck have been providing a comprehensive repair and maintenance solution to RDA for the past 4 years on their mixed fleet of heavy commercials and LCVs, which includes roadside assistance, crane repairs, testing and tyre management. With such a close relationship, there had been ongoing dialogue with regards to upgrading the RDA fleet due to two ageing crane lorries.
At the start of this year, we were delighted when asked to provide a range of options to management which included both contract hire and lease purchase proposals. We also provided a part exchange offer on two 2008 26 tonne crane lorries to make the upgrade process as straightforward as possible for RDA.

After a lengthy consultation process, considering several manufacturers chassis with different FASSI combinations, the well established Glasgow based firm agreed to the purchase of two custom-built Volvo flatbed crane vehicles whilst also accepting a part exchange agreement on both Scania crane lorries which were being replaced.
RDA opted for Volvo FE day cabs which were specified with 320hp engines combined with the super smooth i-shift 12-speed gearbox providing effortless driving for the delighted drivers Rab and Stewart , sourced with the help and assistance of Volvo Truck and Bus.

The scaffold specification body was built by Alltruck group partner PMH coachbuilders, a standard heavy-duty flatbed body with 26ft deck incorporating lashing rings, rope hooks and a fall protection system, all finished in RDA scaffolding’s distinct maroon livery.
The 26 tonne 6x2 rear lift chassis were both fitted with FASSI F275A.2.23 cranes with 3 extensions and radio remote control, a hugely dynamic crane offering lifts of up to 2305kgs at 10.2 metres over the cab, and 5605kgs at 4.4 metres, perfect for the type of work RDA perform on a daily basis, lifting stillages, kwikstage and roofing materials to site. Providing 60% greater lifting momentum and over 2 metre in extended reach over the previous Atlas 165 which were fitted to the Scania rigids, the new FASSI F275A whilst impacting marginally on payload, allowed for greater flexibility when delivering to sites.
Both new vehicles have been supplied on fully maintained R&M contracts over 4 years, providing complete peace of mind for the scaffolding and roofing specialist and as part of the agreement Alltruck will maintain, repair, test, and also breakdown cover. A fully comprehensive support package for the Bothwell based specialist that places reliability and compliance safely in the hands of Alltruck.
Managing Director Martin Shaw commented – “ Our maintenance relationship with RDA Scaffolding was of course pivotal in securing this new vehicle business which we are delighted by.
